We’ll toll roads to repay infrastructure debts – Emefiele

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has mentioned that some roads within the nation will likely be tolled to repay the mortgage utilized in establishing them. 


Emefiele who mentioned this whereas responding to questions after a two-day retreat of the Bankers’ Committee in Lagos on Wednesday December 15, added that roads getting tolled will even support in its upkeep. 


He mentioned; 


“Most of these roads will likely be tolled and we all know that in lots of different nations on the earth, roads are tolled as a result of these initiatives are commercially viable.

“They can be refunded with tolls so that maintenance can be done on a regular basis, and people will pay for it and enjoy good roads, and enjoy good facilities because that is the only way we can fund the infrastructure of this country, which is the large amount of money that is needed.”


Also revealing that there are many idle funds that may be channelled, if packaged the best way the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria Limited has been set as much as give consolation to the native traders to place their funds within the mission, he added that many of the funds could be in naira as a result of the banks and pension fund directors have giant pool of funds, and many of the funds will be raised regionally earlier than the nation begins to consider accessing worldwide finance.
