A police station in Yagba-West LGA of Kogi state has been set on hearth by a mob.
The Kogi police command in an announcement shared on Thursday December 16, stated the incident occurred on Tuesday December 14.
According to the police, the mob assault adopted robberies at three banks in Odo-Ere and Egbe cities within the LGA. A manhunt led to the arrest of two suspects.
Kogi police spokesperson, William Aya stated the manhunt was carried out in collaboration with operatives of different safety businesses, hunters and vigilantes. The workforce reportedly moved the manhunt to Oke-Ere Hills the place the theft suspects have been trapped.
Aya stated an indignant mob from the neighborhood went to the station the place the suspects have been saved, demanding that they be launched for lynching. It degenerated to violence and led to loss of life of 1 Inspector Bamisaye Gbenga. Another police officer, PC Sunday Alechenu sustained accidents.
“The two suspects who have been arrested have been taken to Odo-Ere police station. An irate mob from the neighborhood went to the station demanding that the 2 suspects be launched to them for lynching.
“All efforts by the police to placate the mob proved abortive; it became violent and in the process lynched one Insp Bamisaye Gbenga and injured PC Sunday Alechenu.”
The police spokesperson additionally revealed that in an effort to disperse the mob, a male and a feminine have been maimed and each died within the hospital whereas receiving therapy. He added that the mob set a part of the station ablaze.
Aya stated the Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Idris Babban has condemned the act of lawlessness perpetrated by youths of Ode-Ere and urged them to chorus from taking legal guidelines into their palms.
